Walks from Hidden by the Woods

Walk to Denbigh (part road & part fields and woodland

1. Go out of gate and walk to the main road.
2. Turn Right and over the small bridge.
3. Carry on up the road, round the corner where white house is on the right.
4. Immediately on going round the bend, set of stairs on left, kissing gate on the top.
5. Go through gate and then its signposted to walk into Denbigh.
6. Go over two fields and you will see stile into woods – this is Mount Woods.
7. Follow to the left and there is a fork in the path.
8. Turn right follows downwards into town.
9. Turn left also takes you into town but a longer route but more scenic and views fabulous of the castle and Clwydian range of mountains.

Walk to Denbigh (mostly woods and fields)

1. Go out of gate and walk to the main road.
2. Turn Right and over the small bridge.
3. Past the 1^st white cottage on right, immediately in front a kissing gate with public footpath sign
4. Carry on through the fields and sort of rural campsite.
5. Veer to the right and you will see kissing gate or walk up the hill.
6. The path veers to the right with the river alongside it.
7. There is a choice of two routes now: – to carry on left up steep hill and woods and you come out onto the road, turn right and start walking down hill, then on left steps into field, and follow above instructions from step 6 entering Mount Woods.
8. Or carry on the right with river alongside and there are signposts so follow them, it sometimes gets overgrown.
9. Carry on about a mile and half, passing a couple of houses on left.
10. You are the walking at the back of the old Denbigh Mental Hospital.
11. Come to a road, turn left, about a mile.
12. Follow road into town and you will see a footpath on the right with a sign with Garden Cottage, you can take this path.
13. This pathway takes you under the castle wall.
14. Turn left by the entrance to Myddleton School.
15. Carry on and you will come to Vale Street.
16. Walk up the hill- Vale Street Kitchen small Italian with limited menu but its lovely and takes dogs.

Walk to Dr Samuel Johnsons monument (famous for writing the dictionary)

1. Go out of gate and walk to the main road.
2. Turn Right and over the small bridge.
3. Carry on up the hill a small way and you turn back on yourself alongside a bridal path.
4. Carry on this path about 2 miles, seeing lots of pheasants, pigs usually, and badger sheep!
5. Once you come to the woods with a steep hill, veer to the left through woods.
6. Come to a gate with an open field turn left and look down and Dr Samuel Johnson monument there by the river Ystrad.
7. If you come back to the point where the steep hill is and carry on up you eventually come to Gwaenynog Hall (where Beatrix Potter spent many happy hours).
8. This is a footpath that is circular in route and lovely to do.
